Services for staff of the Department of Justice

    Access to the library

As the Law Courts Library is located on a secure floor, please contact us first if you want to visit.

The Law Courts Library and other court and departmental library collections are not open to the public.  Please refer enquiries from litigants in person and members of the public to the State Library of NSW.

    Borrowing

The Library catalogue and links to an extensive range of free and subscription online legal resources may be found on the Library Services intranet page. To request a loan, or if you need additional resources or assistance with legal research, please contact us .

The following items are not for loan:

    • looseleaf services
    • unreported judgments
    • Bills; Explanatory Memoranda
    • superseded reprinted legislation
    • reference material
    • rare books
    • any other item marked 'restricted loan' or 'not for loan'

All material borrowed is subject to immediate return on request. Loans may be extended by telephone or in person. Overdue notices will be sent for any material not returned or renewed by the due date.

Inter library loans and document supply service

Inter-library loans can be organised for you if Library Services does not hold an item you require. Library staff will request a copy from a library which holds the title. Most libraries charge to supply inter-library loans, and fees are determined by the urgency of the request. Please note that the inter-library loan service is not available for private study purposes.

    Subscription databases

Access to these databases is for authorised users only. A password is required when accessing the databases outside departmental premises.
